THE 2023 WORLD SERIES® WILL BE PLAYED EXCLUSIVELY ON SHAW SPORTS TURF®
The Texas Rangers® and the Arizona Diamondbacks® will compete in the 2023 Major League Baseball® (MLB®) World Series®. Both teams are Shaw Sports Turf (“Shaw“) customers, and both play on Shaw’s elite B1K® “Batting a Thousand” natural system in their home stadiums. The B1K natural system is a synthetic turf field that employs a natural, sustainable infill called Geofill®, which is made from coconut husks and fibers.
The choice to go with Shaw Sports Turf for Globe Life Field® in Arlington, Texas. and for Chase Field® in Phoenix, Arizona. was rooted in data. Shaw used each park’s previous natural grass field as a benchmark for its playability study, which has been developed based upon kinesiology research conducted with Auburn University®. The goal was to not only have the highest performing artificial turf, but to have the highest performing surface for baseball. This research is based on seven playability metrics and a patented data analysis tool that compares system playability to the highest performance natural grass. The Rangers and the Diamondbacks – who are among five MLB teams to use Shaw Sports Turf products — opted for the B1K natural systems which provide excellent ball surface and player surface interaction. Improved player surface interaction results in less lower-extremity fatigue and true reaction times. Player safety and performance played a major role in each team’s decision.
B1K natural is also an important element in the Rangers and the Diamondbacks commitment to sustainability and minimizing environmental impact. The Geofill infill brand includes coconut husks and fibers that are a rapidly renewable resource. The infill requires much less water than natural grass, thus resulting in significant levels of conservation.
B1K is a dual fiber turf system comprised of Shaw’s high-performance Strenexe® XD slit film and Shaw’s Bolt® monofilament. This system provides excellent durability and functionality by minimizing the infill from “splashing,” maintaining adequate infill levels across the field. The Bolt fiber provides realistic ball roll, friction and natural grass aesthetics.
“Shaw has proudly partnered with both teams for more than four years now and cannot wait to watch this World Series,” said Vice President of Shaw Turf Chuck McClurg. Adding, “We’re not taking sides!”
